Oystercatcher: WeBS counts of none in January, three in February, 13 in March, none in October, November or  December.

                          In February one on 3^rd was the first of the year, three on 15^th, seven on 16^th, 10+ on 17^th and 16 on 20^th.

                          In March 12 on 1^st, 18 on 5^th and 26 on 6^th.

                          In December one on 18^th was the last sighting of the year.

                          Seven pairs bred hatching 10 and fledging seven.

Avocet: In March two on 6^th were the first of the year with one on 16^th, 17^th, two on 20^th, 11 on 21^st, one on 25^th, 21 on 28^th, seven on 29^th,

             18 on 30^th, 24 on 31^st.

             In April 20+ on 1^st, two on 5^th, 32 on 7^th, six on 12^th, 40 on 13^th.

             In May 25 pairs on 1^st, 28 pairs on 24^th, two pairs with young + 28 pair nesting on 28^th.

             In June 12 young seen on 19^th, six young on 21^st, nine young on 22^nd, six young on 26^th, four young on 28^th, six young on 29^th,

             eight young on 30^th.  

             In July five young on 2^nd, eight young on 5^th, 6^th, 7^th, 9^th, 10+ on 12^th, 15 young on 16^th, 17 young on 20^th, 11 young  on 21^st,

            12 young on 23^rd,15 young on 27^th, nine young on 31^st.

             In August 10 young on 3^rd, nine on 2^nd, 10 on 6^th, three on 13^th, two on 15^th and 18^th, adult with one young on 19^th, 20^th, 27^th with two adults

             and one young on 31^st.

             In September adult and juvenile present from 1^st till last seen on 8^th.

             A total of 43 pairs bred or attempted to breed on the reserve, the majority of chicks that did hatched were lost due to predation but at least           

            12 chicks survive to fledge.

Little Ringed Plover: In March two on 27^th were the first of the year and present to the end of the month with four on 30^th.

                                    In April two on 2^nd, three on 4^th, four on 5^th, 10^th, 11^th and 12^th.

                                    In May a pair with four young on 30^th plus another two pairs nesting.

                                    In July pair with four young on 25^th.  

                                    In August juvenile on 20^th, 22^nd, 30^th and 31^st.

                                    In September juvenile on 1^st, 3^rd, 5^th, 12^th, 13^th, two on 15^th, one on 16^th, 17^th, two on 18^th, one on 21^st, 22^nd, 23^rd,

                                    two juveniles on 25^th, 27^th, one on 28^th and 30^th.

                                    In October one on 2^nd, 4^th till last seen on10^th.

                                    Four or five pairs in total attempted to breed with three being successful raising

Ringed Plover: In February one on 16^th was the first of the year.

                          In March one on 2^nd, 9^th, 10^th and 12^th, with five on 16^th, two on 21^st and 22^nd, four on 25^th, one on 26^th, two on 27^th to 31^st.

                          In April two on 2^nd, 4^th, 5^th, 7^th and10^th, three on 12^th.

                          In May one on 27^th.

                          In August one on 1^st, 22^nd and 24^th.

                          A pair either bred on site or nearby as in September juvenile was seen  on 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th and 6^th, two adult and juvenile on 12^th,

                          one adult on 13^th, four on 14^th,  two on 15^th, one on17^th, 23^rd and finally on 27^th being the last sighting of the year.

Golden Plover: In January one on 6^th was the first sighting of the year with one on 23^rd and three on 26^th.

                          In February 25 flew north on 2^nd.

                          In August 30 south on 22^nd, five on 24^th, 14 on 25^th, 45 on 28^th, two on 29^th, and 14 on 30^th.

                          over on 30^th.

                          In October 48 south on 4^th, 50 south on 20^th, 61 south on 22^nd, 60 south on 26^th.

                          In November 35 south on 7^th and  43 south on 26^th,

                          In December 120 south on 14^th, 30 south on 15^th, one south on 17^th, 100 south on 19^th and finally nine south on 24^th.

Grey Plover: One on 28^th July was the only sighting of the year.

Lapwing: : WeBS counts of 137 in January, 247 in February, 116 in March, 119 in October, 153 in November and 131 in December.

                   Other counts made during the year were in July 140 on 15^th.

                   In August 156 on 26^th.

                   Three pairs bred with one pair failing and the the other two pair raising five young.

Sanderling: In May five on 29^th and 30^th.

                     In July one on 14^th.

Little Stint: In June one on 8^th was the first of the year.

                    In September one on 7^th.

Curlew Sandpiper: In August four on 25^th.

                                 In September two juveniles on 3^rd, with three juveniles on 21^st and two on 27^th.

Jack Snipe: WeBS Counts of none in January, February, March or October, six in November and five in December.

                     Other sightings were one on 15^th September which was the first of the year with one also seen on 17^th and 29^th.

Kittiwake: In May an impressive flock of c50 birds (90% adults) flew in from west near dusk on 22^nd and spent c 15mins feeding before nearly all

                  the birds flew  off east leaving just an adult and a first summer remaining till dark.

Little Gull: In April adult summer on 18^th was the first of the year with two adult summer birds on 19^th and 20^th, one on 21^st, two on 22^nd.

                   In June two first summer on 5^th, four first summers on 6^th, one second summer on 9^th.

                   In July a first summer on 7^th.

Black-headed Gull: Year round resident on the reserve with at least 960 pairs breeding, raising an average of two chicks each.

Mediterranean Gull: In March a 2^nd winter on 12^th was the first of the year with a first winter bird on 24^th.

                                   In April two second summer birds on 19^th and 21^st.

                                   In May first summer on 4^th, 15^th, 22^nd and 26^th.

                                   In June first summer on 4^th, 8^th, 9^th and10^th, three first summer on 14^th, one first summer on 15^th to17^th, two a first summer  

                                   and a second summer on 18^th, one first summer on 19^th and 21^st to 30^th.

                                   In July the first summer again on 2^nd and 4^th, adult summer on 7^th.

                                   In August adult on 28^th.    

Common Gull: Year round resident on and around the reserve in varying numbers with up to 200 birds seen at times.

Herring Gull: Seen in small numbers in every month of the year with counts of 100+ seen occasionally in pre-roost gatherings during the autumn.

Yellow-legged Gull: A German ringed juvenile was seen on 21^st April.

                                  In May the same bird was seen again on 8^th, 10^th, 11^th and 15^th.  

Iceland Gull: First winter seen on 2^nd March.

Lesser Black-backed Gull: Seen in small numbers in every month of the year with occasional large gatherings of up to 200 birds in autumn.

Greater Black-backed Gull: Seen in small numbers in every month of the year with occasional large gatherings the highest of which was 200+ on

                                               23^rd March.

Little Tern: One present from c4pm till 7pm on 3^rd July.

Sandwich Tern: Two birds flew south over the car park on 14^th April.

Common Tern: In April one flew south on 14^th and was the first of the year with two on 28^th and 29^th.

                           In May two on 7^th, one on 8^th, 10^th, 10+ on 11^th, 12^th, 12+ on 13^th, 17 on 16^th, 2 pairs on 17^th, 13 on 18^th, nine on 21^st, 15+ on 22^nd,

                           eight on 24^th.

                           In June pair with three young on 22^nd, six young on 30^th.

                           In July two young on 20^th, nine on 25^th.

                           In August 18 inc four young on 1^st, six young on 4^th, adult with juvenile on 18^th and 19^th.

                           Ten pairs attempted to nest but most failed due to predation of nests, but two pair were successful managing to raise five

                           young between them.

Arctic Tern: In May two on 13^th were the first of the year with in October a juvenile present from 14^th to 20^th.  

Stock Dove: Seen on and off throughout the year with notable counts in January of ten on 11^th and 16 on 27^th. 

Woodpigeon: Year round resident on and around the reserve with large flocks of several hundred in surrounding fields during autumn and winter

                        months, at least one pair bred on the reserve.

Cuckoo: In June one heard singing on 21^st was the only report of the year.

Barn Owl: In January one on 9^th, 11^th and 28^th.

                  In February one on 2^nd, 9^th, 11^th, 14^th, 15^th, 17^th, 18^th, 21^st, 22^nd, 24^th and 27^th.

                  In March one on 2^nd, 4^th, 8^th, 13^th, 14^th, 20^th and 27^th.

Skylark: Seen on and off throughout the year with notable counts seen being, in January 60+ south on 14^th and 70+ on 20^th.

Sand Martin: One on 7^th April was the first of the year with three on 10^th, 14+ on 11^th and 25+ by the 12^th.

                       In June 117 nest holes were found to be occupied.

                       In October two on 6^th were the last of the year.

Swallow: One on 10^th April was the first of the year with two on 11^th and 10+ on 12^th.

                 In October four south on 4^th, two south on 5^th, and final report of the year was one south on 6^th.   

House Martin: Six+ on 13^th April were the first of the year.

                         In October four on 10^th were the last of the year.

Meadow Pipit: In January one on 4^th was the first of the year.

Waxwing: In February 11 on 14^th and 10 on 16^th.  

Wren: Year round resident on the reserve in small numbers with the odd pair breeding.

Dunnock: Year round resident on the reserve with a few pairs breeding.

Robin: Year round resident on the reserve with a few pairs breeding.

Whinchat: One on 14^th September was only sighting of the year.

Stonechat: Female on 12^th March was only sighting of the year.

Wheatear: In April one on 14^th was the first of the year with one on 28^th.

                  In May one on 5^th and 6^th.

                  In September one on 14^th, 16^th and 17^th.

Ring Ouzel: In April a male on 20^th and 21^st with another or same male again on 1^st May.

Fieldfare: In January 30+ on 18^th.

                 In February 50+ on 23^rd.

                 In March 200+on 23^rd.

                 In April 50+ on 5^th and 6^th.

                 In October 20 on 20^th.

                 In November one on 3^rd and 50 on 25^th,

Blackbird: Blackbird: Year round resident on the reserve with a few pairs breeding, a high count of 35+ on 1^st December.

Song Thrush: Year round resident on the reserve with at least one pair breeding.

Redwing: In April one on 1^st.

                 In October 12 on 12^th.

                 In November ten on 25^th.

                 In December 10+ on 1^st, 5+ on 20^th.

Mistle Thrush: In January one on 15^th, 18^th, with three+ on 26^th.

                         In October one on 21^st.

                         In December two on 25^th.

Sedge Warbler: In April two on 20^th were the first of the year with two+ on 28^th.

                           The last of the year was seen on September.   

                           At least six pairs bred.

Reed Warbler: In April two on 27^th were the first of the year.

                          In October one on 6^th was the last sighting of the year.

                          At least11 pairs bred in the reserves reedbeds.

Treecreeper: One on 2^nd November was only sighting of the year.

Lesser Whitethroat: In April two on 20^th were the first of the year with three on 27^th.

                                   In August three on 14^th were the last reported for the year.

                                   At least two pairs bred.

Whitethroat: In April two on 19^th were the first of the year.

                      In September one on 14^th was the last report for the year.

                      Four or five pairs bred.

Garden Warbler: In May one on 2^nd was the first of the year.

                             In September one on 28^th was the last report of the year.

                             One pair was suspected to have bred.

Blackcap: In April one on 15^th was the first of the year, with six plus on the reserve by the 27^th.

                  In December female on 21^st was the last report.

                  At least  four pairs bred on the reserve..

Chiffchaff: One on 21^st March was the first of the year with one on 22^nd, 23^rd, 24^th, 28^th, two on 30^th and one on 31^st.

                   In April one on 3^rd, two on 5^th, three on 7^th, six on 9^th, 12^th.

                   In May one on 27^th.

                   In September one on 8^th, 14^th, 15^th, four+ on 18^th, one on 22^nd.

                   In October one on 10^th, two on 12^th, one on 13^th.

Willow Warbler: In April at least three on 13^th were the first of the year, then seen regularly throughout the summer with at least two pairs

                            breeding.

Goldcrest: In January one on 2^nd and 23^rd.

                   In April one on 15^th.

                   In October two on 16^th, five on 17^th, one on 26^th and three on 29^th.

                   In November one on 7^th, 10^th and 12^th, two on 13^th, one on 15^th, 24^th and 26^th.

                   In December one on 3^rd and 6^th, two on 7^th, one on 8^th, two on 13^th and 14^th with one on 24^th.

Spotted Flycatcher: In May one on 19^th was the only report of the year.

Long-tailed Tit: Year round resident on and around the reserve. One or two pairs bred.

Blue Tit: Year round resident on the reserve with at least 5 pairs using nest boxes on the reserve.

Great Tit: Year round resident on the reserve with at least 3 pairs using nest boxes on the reserve.

Coal Tit: In January one on 12^th.

               In February one on 17^th.

               In September one on 28^th.

               In November one on 25^th.

               In December one on 24^th.

Willow Tit: In July one on 6^th, 7^th, 11^th, 14^th and 26^th.

Marsh Tit: In October one on 10^th, 16^th, 17^th, 20^th and 21^st.

                  In November three on 1^st, two on 2^nd, one on 11^th and 23^rd.

                  In December one on 20^th.

Jay: In January one on 23^rd.

        In February two on 17^th and one on 24^th.

        In March one on 30^th.

        In April one on 29^th.

        In September one flew west on 8^th with one on 14^th.

Magpie: Year round resident on and around the reserve in small numbers with at least one pair breeding.

Jackdaw: Year round resident on and around the reserve in varying numbers with some large pre roost gatherings during the winter months.

Rook: Year round resident on and around the reserve in varying numbers with some large pre roost gatherings during the winter months.

Carrion Crow: Year round resident on and around the reserve with one pair raising three young.

Starling: Year round resident on and around the reserve.

                In November c5000 flew south on 22^nd.

                In December roost of c1000 birds on 7^th, 13^th, 19th and 27^th.

House Sparrow: An increasingly common resident on the reserve, mainly centered on the reserve entrance where birds take advantage of

                            the presence of ‘The Wild Bird’ café and the free handouts, flocks of up to 30 seen at times with adults feeding young indicating

                            birds are now breeding either on or near the reserve.

Tree Sparrow: Large winter flock of 120+ birds seen on 20^th January, up to 5 pairs bred in the reserves nest boxes.

Chaffinch: Year round resident in small numbers with a few pair breeding on the reserve.

Brambling: in January one on 23^rd, 27^th and 29^th.

                    In December two on 7^th.  

Greenfinch: Year round resident in small numbers with one or two pairs breeding on the reserve.

Goldfinch: Year round resident in small numbers with a few pair breeding on the reserve.

Siskin: In January ten+ on 1^st, 50+ on 4^th, 5^th, 6^th and 12^th, 30+ on 20^th, one on 24^th, six on 25^th, seven on 29^th and six on 30^th.

             In February 10+ on 16^th and 20^th.

             In March six+ on 1^st, one on 16^th and nine on 19^th.

             In October ten on 6^th, one on 18^th, two on 20^th, ten on 24^th, 20 on 26^th and ten on 27^th.

             In November ten on 2^nd, 15 on 5^th, ten on 8^th, 15 on 16^th and one on 30^th.

             In December one on 7^th, 20 on 13^th, six on 26^th and 28^th.

Linnet: Present on and off throughout and in every month of the year in small numbers with 60+ on 26^th March being a notable flock count.

Lesser Redpoll: In January 100+ on 1^st, 80+ on 2^nd, 50+on 4^th, 10+ on 6^th, six+ on 12^th, two on 23^rd, seven on 24^th, two on 25^th, one on 26^th.   

                            In February 25+ on 1^st, two on 16^th, five on 20^th, two on 22^nd, 50+ on 24^th, two on 28^th.

                            In March 30+ on 1^st, one on 3^rd, two on 9^th, three+ on 15^th, 16^th, one on 31^st.

                            In April 50+ flew south on 20^th.

                            In October one on 9^th and five on 26^th.

                            In November five on 8^th and four on 16^th.

                            In December two on 7^th, five on 8^th, two on 15^th, one on 25^th and 28^th.

Bullfinch: In January two on 4^th, one on 6^th, two on 8^th, four on 11^th, 12^th, 15^th and 19^th, two on 22^nd, one on 23^rd.

                  In February three+ on 1^st, pair on 13^th.

                  In March a pair on 18^th. 

                  In May one on 25^th.

                  In June two on 18^th one on 29^th.

                  In July male on 13^th.

                  In August one on11th, 28^th with a pair on 31^st.

                  In September pair on 1^st, three on 11^th and 19^th.

                  In October one on 26^th.

                  In November one on 12^th, pair on 25^th, seven on 26^th and three on 27^th.

                  In December two on 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd, one on 6^th, male on 15^th, male and two females on 20^th,  male and five females on 21^st,

                  pair on 23^rd, one on 24^th and 25^th, three on 26^th.

                  Pair probably bred as one young seen on 10^th August.

Yellowhammer: A scarce species around the reserve nowadays with, In January two on 17^th and one on 26^th.

                            In March three on 23^rd.

                            In October one on 8^th and three on 27^th.

Reed Bunting: Year round resident on the reserve in small numbers with up to six pairs breeding.

Corn Bunting: In January one on 7^th and five on 8^th.

                         In February two on 16^th.

                         In April two on 5^th, one on 6^th, two on 7^th and one on 20^th.

                         In May two on 16^th, one on 23^rd and 24^th with two on 31^st.

                         In June one on 1^st, two on 2^nd, one on 7^th, 8^th and 9^th, two on 16^th, one on 21^st, 22^nd and 28^th.

                         In July one on 4^th, 6^th and 7^th plus12^th to 16^th, 19^th and 27^th.

                         In August three on 7^th with two on 9^th.

                         In September one on 1^st and 21st.

                         In October three on 6^th and two on 20^th,

                         In December one on 7^th, two on 15^th, 18^th with one on 24^th.

                        Two pairs bred on the north side of reserve.
